Joan Tobias Gallery
| A native Californian,
Joan Tobias was born and raised in Long Beach. She received her
B.A, from UCLA and her M. A. from California State University at
Long Beach. However, it wasn’t until retiring that Joan began
her art studies. What began as a hobby soon became a passion.
She has studied in both workshops and classes with many
well-known artists. In particular, she has studied for several
years with internationally known painter, Joe Garcia. Joan
Tobias’ paintings are characterized by the use of rich color,
various textures, and the use of glazing with transparent layers
of watercolor. Although she paints in other media, her main
enjoyment comes from painting in watercolor. Joan finds the
fluidity of watercolor particularly fascinating. She enjoys the
challenge of problem solving inherent in the medium and the
mystery of never knowing until the very end exactly how a
painting will turn out. The actual process of painting as well
as the finished product brings much satisfaction. Joan enjoys
painting whatever subject triggers her imagination. She
especially enjoys painting intimate close-ups to capture an
emotion, a character study, or the fleeting beauty of a moment
in time. Joan Tobias’ paintings have been juried into many art
shows and have received many ribbons. Her paintings are in
private collections throughout the United States. |
